The Spiritual Journey – Arum maculatum - Part 2 (Adam and Eve, Lords-and-Ladies)

by Dr. Mirjana Zivanov

Precodes

Alumina – Code: FULL – EMPTY

“Yesterday they were jumping A LOT (Alu), so she must have jumped A LOT (Alu) on the knee!”

“I ate A LOT (Alu) of cakes, and I felt sick.”

“I drank A LOT (Alu) of alcohol, and I vomited.”

“I try so hard to please everyone, to harmonize relationships, that I completely lose myself (Alu).”

Alumina appears as the Precode when the person oscillates between fullness (too much stimulation, too much food, too much responsibility) and emptiness (losing themselves, feeling hollow, undefined). This dynamic often precedes the development of the deeper Arum pattern.

Arsenicum album – Code: BURDENED – RELIEVED

Non-stop (Ars) irritated (Arum)! Ha-ha…

“That is why I think it all happened — because every single day (Ars, Arum), the WHOLE (Arn) day I was there besides my regular job…”

“Yesterday they were jumping A LOT (Alu), so she must have overloaded the knee — she BURDENED (Ars).”

“In the evening I think too much (Ars), so I cannot fall asleep (Ars). I toss and turn (Ars), and nothing helps. All those thoughts BURDEN (Ars) me.”

Arsenicum album as a Precode reflects the state of constant mental load, overthinking, restlessness, and the inability to release tension. This creates the inner landscape in which Arum later develops — especially the themes of collapse, shock, and emotional freezing.

Causticum – Code: ANGER – PEACE

“There were days when I didn’t exactly lose my voice (Arum, Caust), but it was almost completely gone (Arum, Caust).”

“She always does this to me! ‘Just drive me, I need five or ten minutes…’ I say, ‘Ok.’ And then she’s gone for half an hour! Half an hour! Every time it’s the SAME (Cann-i), and every time I agree (Arum, Caust)! She makes a fool of me! (Caust, Arum)”

“I get extremely ANGRY (Caust) when my father irritates me!”

Causticum as a Precode reflects anger mixed with helplessness, suppressed revolt, and the loss of voice — all of which lead into the deeper Arum dynamic of silent suffering and shock.

Remedies That Precede

  1. Natrium muriaticum – Code: WARM – COLD

Arum often appears in family systems marked by long-lasting parental grief. The Arum child brings dynamism, celebration, and vitality into a household overshadowed by sorrow.

This early emotional climate lays the foundation for Arum’s later themes:shock, separation, silence, and inner collapse.

Remedies That Follow

  1. Conium maculatum – Code: WEAKNESS – STRENGTH

“That feeling of collapse (Arum) and HAVING NO STRENGTH (Con)!”

Conium follows Arum when the person begins to confront the physical and emotional weakness that emerged after prolonged shock or suppression.

  1. China officinalis – Code: EXPOSED – PROTECTED

The person becomes exhausted (Chin) from the effort to PROTECT (Chin) loved ones.

“I feel like that… And I just had a respiratory virus (Arum). At the kindergarten I am really EXPOSED (China) as a teacher…”

China appears when Arum’s internal depletion turns into physical vulnerability and the need for energetic restoration.

  1. Agraphis nutans – Code: GRIEF – SECRET LOVE

Arum frequently experiences secret or unrealized loves. After a breakup for objective reasons, they can shift into Agraphis nutans, where quiet grief takes over.

“He is now with another girl. Sometimes I feel SORRY (Agr-n) that I lost him. It makes me very sad (Arum).”

Agraphis nutans carries the mythic imprint of Apollo and Hyacinthus — love, jealousy, loss, and the grief that comes from what was never fully lived.

Similar Remedies

  1. Muriaticum acidum – Code: NEITHER ALIVE – NOR DEAD

Both love eating “everything and anything,” both overwork, and both share themes of exhaustion and buzzing sensations in the head. They also love movement and the feeling of open space.

Muriaticum acidum hides in the corner when unwell;Arum cleans the corners — symbolically organizing chaos.

Son:She is now under my control (Carc) because she was eating everything and anything! (Arum, Mur-ac)”

  1. Magnesium muriaticum – Code: ANGER – PEACE

Both have cramps and themes of being left alone or abandoned. However:

  • Magnesium muriaticum speaks openly, without restraint.

  • Arum cannot express, even when it is necessary.

  • Mercurius iodatus rubrum – Code: HEAVY – LIGHT

In anger, they resemble each other. In the depths, both struggle with shame.

  • Mercurius feels “dirty,” degraded (like being urinated on).

  • Arum feels stupid, inadequate.

  • Nux vomica – Code: TIGHT – RELAXED

Both love movement, both are irritable and prone to sudden anger. But:

  • Arum withdraws and tries to “iron out” conflicts,

  • Nux vomica does not.

  • Carcinosinum

“I must (Carc), I accepted it (Phos-ac), it is inevitable — that’s how it is where we live! (Arum, Carc)”

Carcinosinum is more disciplined and consistent;Arum is softer, easily persuaded, easily diverted.

  1. Lycopodium clavatum – Code: PRIDE – SHAME

Both deeply worry about children and legal matters.

  • Lycopodium feels shame based on how others perceive them.

  • Arum feels shame to speak, lacks confidence, feels stupid.

  • Blatta orientalis

Both are sensitive to smells, prone to disgust, love water, and suffer from respiratory issues.

Opposite Remedy: Galanthus nivalis

Galanthus nivalis – Code: LOST – FOUND

Both remedies may express themes related to the loss of a child; however, when this theme is present, it tends to manifest differently –Galanthus more often in relation to children of school age, and Arum more frequently in connection with newborns or the period shortly after birth. Galanthus is soft, gentle, sensitive to cold, and cannot walk barefoot even in summer.

Arum is the opposite: warm, resilient, rarely experiences pain.

Nothing in my life ever hurt… Never! I never took medicines until this surgery. Look — this is how many pills I took in my whole life! (Arum)”

She raises both hands and shows ten fingers — only ten pills in her entire life.

I never had the habit of taking medicines… I walk barefoot in winter (Arum), barefoot in summer (Arum)… I am always warm (Arum). My body boils (Arum), boils (Arum).”

Symbolism

  • Galanthus = family, birth, protection, guardianship

  • Arum = wisdom, knowledge, writing.

Together they form the union of:

  • wisdom (Arum)

  • and protection (Gala)

— essential for making major life decisions.

Galanthus loves the house;Arum loves going out, socializing, celebrating.

Galanthus is peaceful, gentle, avoids conflict;Arum lives within themes of quarrels, anger, confrontation.

Complementary remedies

Dr: “Now do everything only as it feels good for you…”

Patient: “FREEDOM (Crot-h), whoever likes what, let them enjoy it!”

Occupations

Biologist, mathematician, orthodontist, lawyer, surgeon.

A biologist studies processes of growth and maturation (Arum).

One Arum patient is a biology professor who has devoted her whole life to the study of nature…

For another Arum patient, biology was her favourite school subject. They study development, which already carries an element of predicting what comes next.

There have also been several Arum patients for whom mathematics was the favourite subject, because they love planning – and mathematics allows that.

One Arum patient is an orthodontist who studies the causes of cleft palate! (Heliognathopalatoschisis)

We also have an Arum lawyer who spent her whole working life doing legal work related to providing financial aid for students. She spoke a lot about papers and about filling out many different documents. And we know that writing things down is one of Arum’s strong sides.

It is important to emphasize that Arum can appear in the role of a dental surgeon, because teeth EXIST (Arum), and then they NO LONGER EXIST (Arum) after extraction. One of our Arum patients was a very talented surgeon.

Symbols

  1. An index finger tightly gripped by someone’s hand – The finger is held so tightly that letting go is no longer a choice.

  1. A silver baby spoon – The silver spoon marks the first moment when nourishment becomes separation.

  2. Ibis and flamingo – At the edge of the same world, one stays while the other prepares to leave.

  1. The Holy Grail – bodily enlightenment – The Grail is not found beyond the body, but when the body can finally endure existence.

  2. A clock – travelling through time – Time carries what exists, while transcendence begins where existence dissolves.

  3. Tearing of the space-time continuum – In the rupture of space and time, continuity can no longer be held.

  4. A leap / jump – The jump is not a choice, but the only exit from what has become unbearable.

  5. A stretched balloon – At the edge of expansion, existence can no longer hold itself.

Why is life prolonged through meditation?Because through Yoga and meditation one enters a state of absolute peace; and in a state of deep PEACE (Arg-n) time stops! (Arum)

While time is standing still (Arum), it DOES NOT EXIST (Arum), and the body has the chance to renew, rejuvenate, heal, regenerate, and to reach new insights. The body ages because time is flowing!

So, is freezing the body actually a stopping of time?

After a millennia-long oscillation between the state of EXISTENCE and the state of NONEXISTENCE, the individual enters the final integration of these primordial opposites.

Through this profound union, a NEW SPIRITUAL QUALITY emerges: THE STATE OF TRANSCENDENCE, the TIMELESSNESS, where the self transcends form, continuity opens, and consciousness steps beyond the confines of past, present, and future.
